Meta has integrated AI into several platforms. It’s very useful, and the company encourages users to talk to its AI chatbot more often. This includes teenagers, who can sometimes get into trouble. For example, a recent report claimed that minors were talking about love with the chatbot. It seems that Meta has found a solution for this.
On Friday, Chief AI Officer Adam Mosseri announced new parental controls for the AI chatbot. The parental controls will be available early next year and will provide a variety of tools for adults. For example, parents will be able to block specific characters (AI models) or completely disable Meta AI from their children.
In addition, parents will receive a summary of the content their children discuss with the chatbot. However, Adam Mosseri did not elaborate on how it will work, but Meta will share more details soon.
Meta is not putting all the responsibility on parents. Adam Mosseri said that the chatbot will continue to be used by teenagers and will continue to provide useful information. But it will be made safer.
The new features will be introduced first on Instagram, with plans to expand to other platforms. The parental controls system will initially be available to English-speaking users in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia.
