The 8th anniversary of the signing of the NCA by the Military Council is being held in Nay Pyi Taw on October 15th, but the fighting between the Kachin Independence Army and the Kachin Independence Army is intensifying these days.
On the night of last October 9, after the attack on the Monlaike refugee camp near Laiza, where the Kachin Independence Army (KIA/KIO) is headquartered, Kachin residents said that the fighting between the KIA and the KIA has been intensifying.
As many as 29 people, including children, were killed when a large and powerful military weapon exploded in the Mon Laike refugee camp.
On October 14, there were also clashes between Karmai town and Nanya village on the road to Phakant, a famous jade mining area in Kachin state.
Locals said that they have been firing more weapons at the Mon Laike camp in the past few days.
Since last July, the military council has been forming columns towards Laiza, Kachin State, where the KIA headquarters is located, for more than 3 months now.
Why did the military council put pressure on Laiza?
The Military Council Army and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA/KIO) have been fighting since the morning of October 14 between Mau Pin Village and Nyan Village in Pha Kang District, and Pha Kang Kamai Road has also been closed.
It is reported that 3 houses in the village were burnt down after the military council line was attacked by mines in Mau Pin village and a local man was shot and killed.
If you continue from Maupin village towards Phakant, there is a check point of the militia and the military council in Nanya village, where passenger vehicles always travel one stop, so the locals are worried, he said.
Whenever the convoys arrive in Nanya village and nearby villages, the villagers are often taken by the convoys to carry weapons, so the locals are worried, he said.
Locals said that in Phakant Township and Momok Township in Kachin State, the military council and the KIA have been fighting continuously since early October.
In Phakant Township, KIA and local armed groups attacked the military council police station and military affairs office at the end of last September.
After the attack on the Mon Laike camp, local news reported that fighting between the military council and the KIA also took place in Mo Mauk and Kut Khaing townships, Wyandmao township and Shweku township.
The Military Council believes that PDFs in northern Sagaing are being supplied with arms and military training by the KIA, and that the KIA is spreading to Mandalay.
The Military Council said that because the KIA was supporting the PDFs in Sagaing, they were putting military pressure on Laiza.
The Kachin Independence Party told the BBC, "It is more likely that they intercepted and attacked their troops (Military Council troops) advancing towards Laiza."
Now, in the battle of Maupin village in Phakan Township, the local residents said that the military council columns that were advancing on foot were intercepted and attacked.
The military council continues to fight not only with the KIA, which did not sign the ceasefire agreement, but also with the MNDAA and the TNLA.
The fighting between the TNLA and the military council forces is fierce in the northern Shan region, and the TNLA side says that there have been a total of 78 battles in the past month.
The Kokang news agency reported that during the October 14th battle between the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and the Military Council in the Kokang Autonomous Region in northeastern Myanmar, the Kokang side seized the army's weapons and ammunition.
The Military Council press release team has not released any information about the Kokang battle and the TNLA battle until 5:00 pm on October 15th.
However, at the eight-year anniversary of the NCA nationwide ceasefire agreement held on October 15, the chairman of the military council said again that the ethnic armed groups should discuss peace.
NCA contract 2021 Acting President of the National Unity Government (NUG) Duwal Shila said that celebrating the anniversary of the NCA is a dishonorable act as it has been void since the February 1 military coup.
