The profit of a movie is also calculated by the number of screens that can be shown nationwide.
Until 2019, before the epidemic and the coup d'état, there were more than 250 movie theaters closed nationwide.
According to the BBC's inquiries, 53 cinemas nationwide have reopened and nearly 60 of the closed ones can be shown in the movie market. Because there are theaters with more than one number of closed cars in a theater, the ability to show movies is calculated by the number of closed cars rather than just counting.
But on the other hand, there are also situations where movie productions try to get more than one week of release dates in order to avoid losses even if the movies are not popular.
''If the income is low because people don't watch the show for a week, the producer buys tickets and fills the money to make it show for two weeks. The full percentage of the admission fee has to be paid next week, so I wanted to pay it again, so I filled it in,'' said a booking manager (who works to get a screening date).
According to the film community, there have been criticisms because the producers are working to increase the release week in such a way.
A Bokin manager said that when Burmese movies are getting more viewers and making a profit, the producers try to repost them, and theater owners show priority to movies that will make a profit.
The film community said that because the current Myanmar film market operates under a system where the producer and the theater owner share half of the theater revenue, the theater owners want to give priority to films that will have a good theatrical income.
Therefore, starting from October 17, 2023, the screening system has been changed, according to the Myanmar Film Association. The first release date system gave two weeks of release dates if the first three days' revenue exceeded 1,800,000,000.
However, due to the criticism of this system, starting October 17th, cars with a new release date will only be allowed to be released for two weeks after the first three days, over 2,700,000.
``The cars that were lined up earlier have more chances to be screened, so starting on October 17th, 10 cars will be selected by the cinematographer. After that, we have to show the two films from the first queue in the same week at the same time in every theater,'' said a member of the Myanmar Film Association.
``The first release date system gave two weeks if the revenue of the first three days was over 1,800,000, but some people suspected that the movie was passed. That's why the newly added cars will be allowed to show for two weeks from the total income of more than 2,700,000,000 in the first three days,'' said a member of the Myanmar Film Association.
Currently, there are 12 cars lined up for release from mid-October to January 2024, according to the theater community and the manufacturer community.
