If an ancient heritage site is in danger of being damaged by natural or man-made disasters due to lack of maintenance and supervision, the relevant authorities need to protect it first through national laws, UNESCO's media officer Thomas Mollet said in an email to RFA.


In September 2019, France submitted a draft proposal to include the city of North Oo in Rakhine State in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. It was imported to the UNESCO World Heritage Center in Paris.

After that, the final proposal was submitted in December 2021 after hiring experts from abroad to inspect the field.
