Northern Shan State bordering China-Myanmar. Locals said that when they have to wait in line on motorbikes to carry consumer goods from China at Sin Phu Gate in Muse City, small sole proprietors are suffering because of the vendors.
Consumer goods and consumer goods from Shweli and Yenggong on the Chinese side are being transported by motorbikes to the Muse side through Sin Pyu Gate.
A person who has personally experienced it told RFA that depending on the prices in the east and west, they pay at least 10,000 to 40,000 kyat for a motorcycle.
"Since the Chinese side does not allow cars to enter and exit, the residents of Musa use motorbikes to transport their goods. Now, the cost of selling a place has gone from 15,000 to 40,000. That is not convenient for sole proprietors."
If you don't buy a place, you can only pick up goods from the Chinese side from Museon Phu Gate once every two days, and you have to queue overnight on a motorcycle.
By purchasing a place in the queue, it is possible to transport goods to Muse and China on the same day.
Therefore, the authorities should take effective action against those who sell this place in the first place, Muse residents and sole traders said.
RFA reached out to U Khun Thein Maung, Shan State Spokesperson of the Economy Minister of the Military Council, for a response on the issue, but he did not receive a response.
Previously, they were allowed to carry goods by car, but now, in 2023, China stopped allowing cars and closed it, so they are only carrying goods by motorbike.
