Kachin State Phakant Township, Residents told the BBC that one unwashed stone prospector was killed and two others were seriously injured when a pit collapsed in a rock block near Sankha village last night.
Phakant Township, Lonban village group, It is reported that a nearly 70-foot-high head of soil was removed from a company block near Sankha village when the ground collapsed and people who were searching for unwashed rocks below were injured and killed.
In the landslide, 18-year-old Hla Kyaw San, who did not wash the stone, was killed, and Ko Soe Moe and Ko Kyaw Chet of Sankha Village were seriously injured.
Locals said the death toll could be higher due to the landslide at night.
Locals said the landslide site is within blocks of three mining companies that are jointly benefiting the Military Council and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
